part in a combatives course Oct. 1. The course
was taught by Pedro Valente from the Valente

to use during a hand-to-hand combat situation.
The class was based on techniques created and

Pedro Valente
visits Honduras and is received by President Manuel Zelaya
Professor Pedro Valente
visited Honduras this past weekend to teach a special Gracie
Jiu-Jitsu seminar. Professor Valente was invited by Gracie
Miami student John Paul Lloyd who recently moved back to his
home country. Following the recommendation of the Valentes
John Paul created a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu club to share the art with
friends and family. John Paul, who trained at Gracie Miami
for nearly four years travels back to South Florida frequently
to enhance his Jiu-Jitsu skills. Professor Pedro was very
impressed with the technical level of all students. Among

Magazine The Man Minding Mynt
Owner Romain Zago's fiber-cool nightspot already
has fabulous crowd, but a redesign and a new
attitude have it poised to reclaim its place as
Miami's hottest club
His entire security team,
he says, is fully certified in Brazilian
jujitsu-the official hand-to-hand combat system of
the American military and many law-enforcement
agencies nationwide (see graciemiami.com for
further info). "That means nobody will get
punched, even if they start trouble, so there's no
violence, confusion or fear in the club ever."

What
Jiu-Jitsu Can Do For Your Kid?
How the art helps children of all kinds, from the
perspective of those who have experienced and
guided the transformations - and a guide to
knowing who to trust with the little ones.
The subject dates back further than one would
imagine. Back in 1948 a book came out by Carlos
Gracie, titled Introduction to Jiu-Jitsu, in which
the grandmaster expounded his reflections on the
usefulness of learning Jiu-Jitsu at an early age.
What's more, the patriarch warned of the dangers
of growing up without the lessons of the gentle
art, and even proposed Jiu-Jitsu as a sort of
salvation from a good part of the problems young
people face. To the skeptics, he would say that
sometimes the solution is really quite simple, but
the intricacies of our reasoning keep us from
seeing it.
