This
week the youngest of the Valente brothers moved to Miami. Joaquim
Valente graduated from the American School of Rio de Janeiro last
June and will now attend Barry University. Like his brothers,
Joaquim was born into the Valente Gracie tradition and at the age
of three was already receiving private lessons from Grand Master
Helio Gracie. Over the last few years Joaquim trained daily at
the Gracie Academy of Rio de Janeiro under Professor Royler Gracie
and consistently went to Grandmaster Helio’s house in the
mountains of Rio. Before leaving Brazil, Joaquim was awarded the
Black belt and the coveted Professors’ Diploma by Grandmaster
Helio Gracie. Joaquim is very excited to contribute with Gracie
Miami and share his knowledge with all our students. |
Valente
Gracie Miami
offered a special defensive tactics course to the
Surfside
Police. During the seminar, Surfside Police officers had the
opportunity to learn important Jiu-Jitsu techniques designed and
adapted for Police work. Following the Seminar, Surfside
Mayor,
Charles W. Burkett awarded
Valente Gracie a beautiful plaque for the school’s commitment
and assistance to the community. We are very proud and
honored for the opportunity to once again, share Gracie Jiu-Jitsu with the Law
Enforcement community.

Taking Advantage of last weeks break, Valente Gracie Miami Professors worked hard to revise, improve and film a new and enhanced Fundaments Curriculum. The 27 Lesson cycle created by Professor Pedro Valente based on Grand Masters Helio Gracie's original street self-defense private program pioneered the utilization of curriculums for group classes in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Schools. Today, the Fundamentals is a combination of the Grandmaster Helio Gracie's original, non sportive, street self-defense course and Rorion Gracie's Combatives program designed exclusively for the US Military.

PROFESSOR PEDRO VALENTE MEETS WITH HILLARY CLINTON
By STEVEN ABOOD

Miami, Florida – In a historic meeting, presidential candidate and United States Senator Hillary Clinton met with Gracie Jiu-jitsu Professor Pedro Valente of Gracie Miami to discuss the physical and psychological benefits of jiu-jitsu in young children. The summit was held at North Beach Elementary School and Mr. Valente accompanied other educators invited by Ms. Clinton to share their experiences regarding the positive impact of various activities on early education.
Mr. Valente, who began formally learning jiu-jitsu from Grandmaster Helio Gracie at the age of three (his brother, Professor Gui Valente, had a year head start on Pedro, beginning his training at age two), spoke with Ms. Clinton about the benefits of educating children early. Not only is physical confidence developed in the young child from learning how to defend against an aggressor, Mr. Valente related, but mental discipline and focus is developed as well, traits essential for many aspects of life. The transformative power of jiu-jitsu in a young child’s life is repeatedly evident in the Gracie Miami children’s class, where students start as young as age three, Mr. Valente conveyed. Ms. Clinton was very receptive to the early educational benefits of Gracie Jiu-jitsu and stated that “I’m a firm believer in teaching martial arts to children.” Observers saw the meeting as an important milestone for the acquisition of political support for Gracie Jiu-jitsu in youth education.
--Gracie Miami would like to thank our friend Reed Wallace for organizing this meeting.
